mrs. tiggy-winkle round

This past weekend was the most relaxing I've had since I started back to work 5 1/2 months ago. I hadn't expected it to be so good, as, ironically, the first weekend I've had off in a month co-incided with John needing to do a class trip to Toronto on Saturday all day, dawn till dusk. However, it turned out that Aislinn and I had a really terrific chance to be together, just the two of us, and that, although we missed him, John's absence could be turned into a positive thing.
Even though Aislinn and I did nothing at all exciting, we took a lot of pleasure in each other's company. We walked D.J. down to the grocery store and took turns going in and selecting breakfast items for ourselves; we watched three episodes of the first season of Heroes in bed and two episodes of the first season of The X-Files; we made some Pillsbury cinnamon buns and devoured them; we played with the dog. It was a wonderfully relaxing day.
On Sunday, John and I got groceries in the morning, and then all three of our children absented themselves from the house for the afternoon; what a treat! Of course, one of them took the car, but John and I went back to bed and watched Heroes all afternoon [John and I are going to have to buy season one after we return it to the student who loaned it to him; it's wonderful], and we did laundry in between episodes.
I wish every weekend could be just like this, but the truth of the matter is, that I work most Sundays, so that Saturdays have to involve grocery shopping, so there isn't the time just to hang out like this with my family. However, I look forward to having days off this summer when my entire family will be home.
