A couple of years ago, I had a bunch of totally unexplained seizures. They lasted over the course of about a month. Of course the first thing that the doctors did was have my driver's licence taken away. I'm sure that this is a good idea for other people, but it has made our lives, especially my husband's, absolutely hellish!
The suspension lasted for a year, after which I could go and see my neurologist and get papers signed to say that I was fit to drive again, and this took *months*.  And it cost a fair bit, as well - the neurologist charged me $135.00 for a four-line letter to the Ministry of Health in which he forgot to enclose any of the required documents and then was required to resubmit them, adding two months onto the waiting period. Highly frustrating!
Tomorrow, I go into a DriveTest centre and take my written Driver's Test exam - about 30 questions on roadsigns, road rules, etc. You've all been there; and then I get a temporary licence.  In Ontario now we have a graduated licencing system in which I would usually have to wait a year before I could get a real driver's licence, but because I am a driver with over 20 years' experience, they're waiving that rule and letting me take a test as soon as I can book one.  I'm going to need to practice parallel parking as it's been a while, but otherwise I think I'll do okay.
Wish me luck for tomorrow!
-Edith.
