Movie Meme - Reader Participation Required!
I've done this meme before, but [info]nonickname96 reminded me how much fun it was, and I've decided to do it again. The rules if you wish to try it on your own?
1. Select any number of movies that you like.
2. Look them up at IMDB.com
3. Click on "memorable quotes" in the left-hand margin and choose a memorable quote
4. Put the memorable quotes in your journal.
5. Get your friends to guess which movies the quotations are from.  All of these are from movies that I especially like.
There. Easy peazy.

NO looking up these quotes in IMDB or Google or any other place that occurs to you! And one last rule: have fun!

1.  Oh, him? He's harmless. Part of the free speech movement at Berkeley in the sixties. I think he did a little too much LDS.  Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home: correct guess by [info]cat63

2. Let's see, there's the, uh... The bump, the stomp, the bus stop... Me breakdancing days are probably over, but there's always the funky chicken.

3. Don't you blaspheme in here! Don't you blaspheme in here! This is my man, this is my restaurant, and you two are gonna turn around and walk right out of here - without your dry white toast, without your four fried chickens, and without Matt 'Guitar' Murphy!  The Blues Brothers: correct guess by [info]firesign10

4. Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple. Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory [the 1971 version] - giving credit for this to [info]firesign10 and [info]cat63

5.  Now that there is the Tec-9, a crappy spray gun from South Miami. This gun is advertised as the most popular gun in American crime. Do you believe that shit? It actually says that in the little book that comes with it: the most popular gun in American crime. Like they're actually proud of that shit. Jackie Brown: correct guess by [info]jadis

6. Later, in the Men's Department, after discovering his long lost brothers, the jungle king was pleased to find he looked pretty good in Armani. George of the Jungle: correct guess by [info]cat63

7. Have you forgotten the most telling fact? What ever the Prince may be, he knows little or nothing about human anatomy.

8. But I heard her! No wonder she never looked twice at Kevin or brought any boys home. I tried to get her nice clothes, you know we've had some lovely prints in this summer you know in swimwear and sarongs and that. She never wants to go shopping with me. It was terrible what they did to that George Michael going on about him and his private business in the papers like that! Oh No!

9. The second time... The second time he told me a story... about how someone offered him a boat cloak on a cold night. And he said no, he didn't need it. That he was quite warm. His zeal for his king and country kept him warm.

10. Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible cunt... me.

11. Look around! You couldn't find a whiter, safer or better lit part of this city. But this white woman sees two black guys, who look like UCLA students, strolling down the sidewalk and her reaction is blind fear. I mean, look at us! Are we dressed like gang-bangers? Huh? No. Do we look threatening? No. Fact, if anybody should be scared around here, it's us: We're the only two black faces surrounded by a sea of over-caffeinated white people, patrolled by the triggerhappy LAPD. So you tell me, why aren't we scared? Crash: correct guess by [info]jadis

12. There's nothing more toxic or deadly than a human child. A single touch could kill you. Leave a door open, and one can walk right into this factory; right into the monster world. Monsters, Inc: correct guess by [info]cat63

13. He loves her. Love, it's a new style... On the other hand, our old ways were once new, weren't they?... On the other hand, they decided without parents, without a matchmaker!... On the other hand, did Adam and Eve have a matchmaker?... Well, yes, they did. And it seems these two have the same Matchmaker!

14. I believe God made me for a purpose, but he also made me fast. And when I run I feel His pleasure. Chariots of Fire, correct guess by [info]unselko

15. This is the captain. We have a little problem with our entry sequence, so we may experience some slight turbulence and then - explode. Serenity: correct guess by [info]cat63

16. I knew a lady very like your sister - the same impulsive sweetness of temper - who was forced into, as you put it, a better acquaintance with the world. The result was only ruination and despair.
Sense and Sensibility: correct guess by [info]banjobraids

17.  Beautiful Aurelia, I've come here with a view of asking you to marriage me. I know I seems an insane person - because I hardly knows you - but sometimes things are so transparency, they don't need evidential proof. And I will inhabit here, or you can inhabit with me in England. Love Actually: correct guess by [info]banjobraids

18.  Now, I would just like to point out that this film is displaying a distinct tendency to become SILLY. Now, nobody likes a good laugh more than I do... except, perhaps my wife... and some of her friends. Oh, yes, and Captain Johnson. Come to think of it, most people like a good laugh more than I do, but that's beside the point! I'm warning this film NOT to get SILLY again! And Now For Something Completely Different: correct guess by [info]brak55 Right!

19.  OK. My family they got shot down by D.E.A. officers because of a drug problem. I left with the greatest guy on earth. He was a hitman, the best in town, but he died this morning. And if you don't help me, I'll be dead by tonight.

20. These go to eleven. This is Spinal Tap: correct guess by [info]cat63

You're right about #3, and you're almost right about #4. So close!
Jaelle n'ha Gilla[info]jaelle_n_gilla on September 4th, 2008 01:24 pm (UTC)
Um. I think s/he's right with #4 and #3 is Star Treck. The one with the wales and Kirk and the nuclear vessels...

1. Captain Kirk talking about Spock in Star Trek IV

6. George, George, George of the Jungle? :-)

12. Monsters Inc

15. Serenity (Yay!)

20. This is Spinal Tap (which I've never even seen, but I know the quote anyway :-)).

The rest I don't know but will probably kick myself severely when you post the answers :-)

Jaelle n'ha Gilla[info]jaelle_n_gilla on September 4th, 2008 01:16 pm (UTC)
You beat me to Mosnters Inc. and Spinal Tap (at least I can say I've seen it :-))
cat63[info]cat63 on September 4th, 2008 01:35 pm (UTC)
Sorry! :-)
edith_jones[info]edith_jones on September 4th, 2008 01:22 pm (UTC)
Very impressive! All five of them correct!
This is Spinal Tap is really worth watching! I love it.
Have you actually seen George of the Jungle?
cat63[info]cat63 on September 4th, 2008 01:31 pm (UTC)
Have you actually seen George of the Jungle?

Oh yes - if nothing else, any film of which Brendan Fraser spends the greater part shirtless can't be a total loss :-)

I just couldn't quite remember that line. It sounded right though.

Absolutely right but [info]cat63 beat you to the punch!

14 - Chariots of Fire
edith_jones: girl on swing[info]edith_jones on September 4th, 2008 01:45 pm (UTC)
Nicely done!

Are you feeling better? Facebook led me to believe that you were half-dead, but here you are guessing movie quotations?!

#5 is indeed Jackie Brown! Well done! Great Samuel L. Jackson icon, BTW!

Can I say that I think you have very obscure tastes? Either that or they are just wildly different than mine! I haven't seen any of the films that people have already guessed, and nothing else even sounds remotely familiar to me. Darnit.

I should do this one again.
edith_jones[info]edith_jones on September 4th, 2008 09:00 pm (UTC)
I think they're wildly different - I've got two Disney films on here, and three Oscar winners, although I will admit that some of them are more obscure. And some of them are not recent - several date back to the early 1970s, when my first tastes for film were being formed [I was born in 1963].

So, I'm curious - what are your favourite films? Would love to hear and find out if I recognize them! I have a feeling that I won't!

16. Sense and Sensibility (and I just got choked up)
edith_jones[info]edith_jones on September 4th, 2008 08:42 pm (UTC)
By the movie, I'm assuming? It is a beauty! Did you know that in real life Emma Thompson [who played Elinor and who wrote the screenplay], and Greg Wise [who played Willoughby] are a couple and have a child together? Gaia, I think the child's name is.

Do you like Austen movies in general or just this one? I like them all - my favourite might be this one, although I'm awfully fond of the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma as well. I did NOT like the Keira Knightley Pride and Prejudice; it didn't follow the book closely enough for my tastes.

17. Love Actually (a now favorite holiday movie)
edith_jones[info]edith_jones on September 4th, 2008 08:30 pm (UTC)
Good guessing! It's a favourite of mine all-year round, actually.

Which of the many storylines is your favourite? I'm seriously divided between Colin of the sexy British accent and Colin Firth and his Portuguese maid - especially when his manuscript falls into the lake.

#19 - Monty Python and the Holy Grail
edith_jones: lol[info]edith_jones on September 4th, 2008 09:09 pm (UTC)
It's odd - I would have thought that the first one guessed - to me it's SO obvious. Apparently not everyone was addicted to Monty Python, nor did everyone watch the movie close on two dozen times.

You've got the movie wrong, by the way - it's actually And Now For Something Completely Different, but I can see where you're going with it, so I'll give you the credit. At least you knew it was Monty Python!

Right now I am remembering the "Every Sperm is Sacred" song and realizing that it is time to watch the film again.
